South Africa is the birth place of the King Codes of Corporate Governance, but do South African organisations adhere to corporate governance principles?  Do leaders truly understand the spirit behind the Codes and apply the principles?  The Institute of Internal Auditors’ Corporate Governance Index sets out to answer this question by measuring the perception of Chief Audit Executives on the state of corporate governance within their respective organisations on an annual basis.

Internal auditors, who provide assurance on governance, are in the unique position of being able to give an independent and collective view of the South African landscape in this regard.  The Index, which is compiled on an annual basis, not only offers a barometer on the state of governance in South African organisations, but very importantly also provides leaders with the ability to benchmark their organisations against the South African norm, right down to their sector and industry.  Download...
