CGF: New appointments with yet another governance service (2014-04-29)

Since its establishment in March 2004, corporate governance specialist services company CGF -- a Level 4 BBBEE compliant company -- has steadily grown to become a recognised brand amongst many corporate businesses and state organisations in South Africa.
With our continued expansion plans, we are delighted to announce the appointments of Kirsty Ridley and Ansie Leiding to the company says its Chief Executive Officer, Terrance Booysen.

Kirsty has joined the company as a Researcher and will be involved in the research and compilation of corporate governance reports.  She graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (‘UKZN’) after completing an LLB and thereafter, an LLM specialising in Business Law.  After the completion of her master’s degree, Kirsty lectured the Law of Sale and the Law of Property at The Howard College School of Law, UKZN.  Subsequently, Kirsty completed her articles at a corporate law firm in KwaZulu-Natal and qualified as an attorney in 2012.  Kirsty has worked with various investigation companies providing legal advisory services and conducting forensic investigations.  She has been involved in criminal and civil investigations, including fraud and finance related issues.  Kirsty has also gained business experience during her role as a General Manager in the training services industry.

Also joining our team is Ansie Leiding. Ansie obtained her LLB in 2009 and started her career at Telesure Group Services where she gained experience as a Senior Recoveries Consultant, specialising mostly in insurance and commercial litigation.  She then changed her area of specialisation and moved into a professional assistant role where she was trained and mentored by various corporate officials, gaining invaluable corporate management experience as well as working closely with the HR departments in the area of recruitment, involving the sourcing and screening of prospective candidates.

Ansie will bring her knowledge on executive search and recruitment to launch CGF’s newest governance service in the area of Non-executive Directorship appointments.  This initiative allows an attendee of CGF’s Governance Beyond Boards® training programme to be automatically included within CGF’s database, where their CV could be considered for an external Non-executive Director (NeD) position.  Once an attendee has completed the two-day training -- at their election -- their CV will be made available to our clients searching for NeDs.  Many senior managers or prescribed officers have never envisaged themselves being a NeD, or even realised these possibilities says Booysen.  For an individual, Non-executive Directorships can offer lucrative compensation along with massive career opportunities, whilst broadening their cross-sector exposure.  Appointments of this nature can be mutually beneficial, for both an individual and the company inviting NeDs to occupy these positions.

Once the CGF two-day training has been completed, CGF provides a specific certificate of attendance to the individual who has undergone the Governance Beyond Boards® training which will remain valid for two years.  We then automatically include the individuals of this training as potential candidates for external NeD positions when these appointments become available.  Expectedly, individuals must be in possession of a recognised tertiary education and in the main, are already senior managers at their current place of employ.

CGF’s new hands-on training and NeD placement service will not only open doors for those individuals showing interest in a NeD position, but it also aligns the individual’s own understanding of what directors are exposed to from an operational risk and personal liabilities perspective.  Once this is understood, expectedly the existing communicative gaps, which are so often found between directors and managers, are greatly narrowed.  Clearly this is good for a company’s communicative strategy, not least its overall sustainability.
